This research article is part of a project accredited by the Argentina Against Hunger program: backyard poultry production systems. The objective was to identify, analyze and describe the productive and commercial strategies implemented by rural family economies. To this end, the problems and strategies for the production and marketing of poultry products linked to the economy of farming families, which use them to obtain monetary resources to cover their basic needs, were identified and analyzed. Therefore, based on case studies and the implementation of the Balanced Scorecard tool, 25 indicators were designed to diagnose the current situation and propose guidelines for
continuous improvement. The results obtained show that part of the production is destined for selfconsumption, while the income generated by the activity is essential to position them above the poverty line; vulnerabilities related to the socioeconomic context and the problems inherent to the production system are also identified. Based on this, six indicators were found to be in condition 1 (serious); eight indicators in condition 2 (worrisome); seven indicators in condition 3 (normal); and four indicators in condition 4 (satisfactory).
