Abstract

The purpose of this article is to analyze the risk factors associated with the job of motorcycle taxi driver in the city of Cartagena de Indias (Colombia) to determine their influence on perceptions of injuries caused by traffic; especially, the perceptions of accidents and injuries. To do this, a structured questionnaire was applied, using the survey technique, to a representative sample of 403 people who work as motorcycle taxi drivers in the city, assuming an infinite population and taking as a reference a confidence level of 95 % and an error sample of 4.9 %. For this, the ordered Logit model was used to determine the relationship between risk factors and the perceptions of motorcycle taxi drivers, based on two models: perception of accidents and perception of traffic injuries. The results showed that the variables with the greatest influence for both models were exposure to wind, due to effects on handling and speed presented by wind gusts; insecurity, associated with the conditions of the roads, in terms of signaling, state of the pavement, among others; and ergonomics, referring to exposure to bad postures during the exercise of the trade.
