Abstract

Environmental management systems allow organizations to prevent, reduce and minimize the environmental impacts of their activities, increase their operational efficiency, enjoy a good corporate image and obtain greater competitiveness in the market. The micro and small companies in their desire to improve their environmental performance and expand their market, are implementing ISO 14001 in different parts of the world. In Peru, MYPES are also choosing to implement this international standard; however, there is no exact information on how many MYPES have such certification. This research will seek to understand the implementation of ISO 14001 in Peru's MYPES. To this end, a systematization of the information provided in the annual surveys of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the data on business structure of the Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) was carried out.
